What Happened?
It was the time of early morning of September 20, 2024, when Goss was driving his Chevrolet Suburban westbound in an eastbound lane on the U.S. Highway 50 near Lee’s Summit, Missouri. At the same time, Kevin Wilson, a 65-year-old person, was driving a Subaru; they both collided head-on, and it resulted in the death of Kevin Wilson.
Meanwhile, Goss was trapped in his vehicle, suffered injuries, and also had to go through a breathalyzer test, which was negative, i.e., 0.16%, twice the legal limit.
Charges Filed
On June 24, 2025, Peter E. Goss was arrested and charged in Johnson County District Court with:
- Involuntary manslaughter
- Driving while intoxicated, causing death
- Wrong-way driving on a divided highway
He is 45 years old and these charges are serious ones; if convicted, these charges could result in decades in prison. The seriousness of this can be understood by the fact that the involuntary manslaughter charge alone carries a sentence of up to life.
Civil Litigation Update
In January 2025, the wrongful death lawsuit filed by Wilson’s children was settled for $2.25 million by Goss’s insurer. One important thing is that this settlement is not related to the currently pending criminal charges.
What Is The Current Status?
As of writing this article, things are moving forward, and legislature bodies are doing their proceedings; a warrant has been issued for Goss’s arrest, requiring him to appear in court soon.
The Missouri prosecutors are continuing with the felony charges, presenting evidence from the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s probable cause statement. Moreover, Goss is currently free on bond and continuing his legal practice in Kansas. However, he is expected to face restrictions as a result of court proceedings.
